Ships move out of layup as freight rates improve

A total of 23 ships have moved out of layup at Greece’s Elefsina anchorage since March or are about to do so, local officials tell TradeWinds.

This provides further evidence that the moderate freight rate rebound seen in recent months has increased the level of tonnage circulating in the shipping system.

Seventeen bulkers and boxships that featured in a Greek coastguard list of laid-up ships in March are absent from an assessment issued last week.
