Military Sealift Command (MSC) has torn up a $35.5m charter of a TransAtlantic Lines (TAL) general cargoship that faced maintenance issues and has headed back into the market for a temporary replacement for the vessel.

But Gudmundur Kjaernested, a top executive at the Connecticut-based shipowner, says his company has completed work on the 5,060-dwt Transatlantic (ex-Baffin Strait, built 1997) so it can return to trading.
