A growing number of German-owned boxships are being lined up for demolition, with as many as half-a-dozen candidates this week, say brokers.

“People are finally pulling the trigger on some ships,” one broker said, adding that the incentive is the collapse of charter rates and a spike in demolition prices. The willingness of some German owners to dispose of tonnage comes after containership scrapping prices broke through the $300-per-ldt barrier.
