The finish line is in sight for the widening of the Panama Canal as officials express greater confidence the waterway’s biggest upgrade in more than 100 years will go into operation by the end of the next quarter.

While recent snags have prevented the planned April start-up and Panama Canal Authority (ACP) officials are hesitant to put an exact date on a commercial kick-off, they see few remaining hurdles ahead now that repairs have been carried out to address fissures that developed in new lock gates.
