There were no widespread celebrations or street parties on Monday when it was announced that sanctions against Iran were lifted. Life went on as normal in Tehran on the day, which also coincided with a large conference organised by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) to celebrate its 60th anniversary. But what was clearly in the air was a sense of relief from everyone — from hotel clerks to business leaders — that one of the darker periods of Iran’s history was now over.
