It was a grand celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of the foundation of National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) but also an occasion to talk about the future and the return of Iranian ships to the world insurance market.
The anniversary meant that at least five protection-and-indemnity (P&I) clubs, as well as a number of brokers and hull underwriters, were in Tehran at the weekend, as “implementation day” was declared, marking the end of most of the sanctions that have deprived the Iranian fleet of access to the international insurance world for more than six years.
