A deal that would have seen Hafnia Tankers of Denmark purchase seven modern handysize tankers from Turkey’s Geden Lines has fallen through.

The companies struck a preliminary agreement for Mikael Skov-led Hafnia to take the tankers on time charters with purchase options in September.

Hafnia vice-president Jan Mechlenburg confirms that the deal will not now take place.

He strongly denies that cancellation of the agreement is related to Hafnia’s plans of launching an initial public offering (IPO), which would upgrade its current Oslo over-the-counter (OTC) listing.
