The company, which was conducting negotiations on the 170,000-cbm FSRU newbuilding through Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T), gave shipyards a figure of $308m to chew on, TradeWinds understands.

The figure quoted is said to have been higher than expected by yards, although there appears to have been some confusion about the exchange rates used in arriving at it.

Sources say that of the big three Korean shipbuilders, which have all been working on LNG newbuilding specifications with GM&T for some time, the bidders were quickly reduced to two — DSME and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) — with the latter making the lowest offer.
