Improvement in the capesize sector dragged the Baltic Dry Index off a historical floor today but distress remains in the air around the battered market.

Capes climbed by 15% with progress also seen in freight futures to bring the BDI back above 500 points on Monday.

While a reading of 516 points is still one of the worst in recorded history it is an improvement on the 498 points set on Friday.
